QUOTES
“The moment I saw the layout, I said “this is it!” because the 2 previous architects weren’t able to give me what I really wanted” – Mr Lai (House Owner) reflecting on the efficient layout in a triangulated corner site

CONCEPT
The Lego House
Its triangulated site created a “deep central area” , posing a naturally dark & deep space for natural ventilation. The design team exploited the site’s potential by staggering 2 linear blocks of 3-storeys each, with the front block laid along the main road, distinguishing the private & semi-private wings of the house.

Push-Pull
Facing South-East, the linear blocks were stacked in a “Lego format”, using a “pulling/pushing” approach in 2D directions to articulate the forms of the 3 storey blocks while achieving natural shading to floors beneath.
The approach created both horizontal & vertical voids , inviting ample natural daylight and cross-ventilation within the parameters of the home.
Skylights and slit windows were strategically installed to illuminate the internal spaces in the day.
Family Interaction
Connecting the blocks, the main staircase overlooks the private outdoor courtyard space, developed for family functions, and directly accessed from the column-free car porch.
The roof terrace provides a panoramic view of the neighbourhood.

Living Privacy Screens
To satisfy the owner’s green thumb, a green wall was installed. Planter boxes with mesh screens and integrated lighting along the boundary of the house provided privacy at street level.
