INTRO
Orchard (Fruit Plantation) – Extracting nature’s different patterns and textures, the Facade pays tribute to the arboricultural history of Orchard Road. The 3,000sqm iconic canopy rests on a couple of “tree trunks” reminiscent of tree canopies and foliage.
The residential towers facade above, mimics the roots and shoots of crops of vegetation.
CONCEPT
Orchard
Conceived with a “seed” in the heart of the overall plan, the concept to encapsulate the the building with an “organic skin” was achieved with the monocoque facade for it’s “shell like” self supporting characteristics to span between floors organically.
Monocoque Facade
A holistic approach to enhance experience was to have integrated LED media walls of different parts of the monocoque facade for pedestrians as well as motorists afar.
Seed
The “Water-drop” in the form of double curved frameless glass mimics rain drops from the glass canopy above, act as an anchor point of the plaza and into the MRT beneath.
Looking skywards, the glass canopy mimics a transparent foliage screening of the elements for activities beneath
